MP7 Light Gun: Printed Build · Volume 2
Finding a Starter File — Every MP7 Model Findable, and Which One to Start From
Eleven model sites and the commercial stores searched on 19 October 2026 for an editable, realistic, full-size MP7: what each listing offers in formats, licence, scale and completeness, the one whole-gun STEP that exists, the meshes worth keeping as references, a ranked shortlist with the reasons, what to check when the file arrives, and what to ask its designer
2.1 What a starter file has to have
The owner’s brief sets the bar: a file Fusion 360 can import and modify, STEP preferred, mesh formats out, as much of the modelling already done as possible, and realistic. Turned into criteria a listing can be checked against:
Table 1 — The owner's brief sets the bar: a file Fusion 360 can import and modify, STEP preferred, mesh formats out, as much of the modelling already done as possible, and realistic. Turned into criteria a listing can be checked against
| # | Criterion | Why it matters here |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Format: a solid (STEP, IGES, Parasolid) or native CAD | Only solids can be cut, shelled, split and measured face by face in Fusion. A mesh is triangles (Volume 4). |
| 2 | Scale: 1:1, with the reference stated | ”1:1” in a listing is a claim. Which drawings, photos or real parts it was modelled from decides whether to believe it. |
| 3 | Separate parts | A receiver, front cover, stock, grip and magazine as separate solids follow the real gun’s own part lines, which is where the print wants to split anyway (Volume 6). One fused body has to be cut apart. |
| 4 | Completeness of the outside | Rails, sights, controls, stock and foregrip all modelled. Internals are not needed and will be deleted. |
| 5 | Licence | Personal use is enough for the first gun. A kit needs more (Volume 3). |
| 6 | Provenance and track record | Who made it, whether others have printed it, and whether it was modelled or extracted from a game. |

2.2 How the search was done
Every site was searched on 19 October 2026 for “mp7” and, where useful, “mp7a1”, “hk mp7”, “heckler koch”, “pdw” and “mp7 prop”. Results were read in a browser, and through each site’s own search interface where it has one (GrabCAD’s library search, Printables’ search API, Sketchfab’s public API), so that the listing’s own page is the source and not a search summary. Every listing named below was opened and its formats, price, licence and description read on the page. No account was created, nothing was bought and no CAD file was downloaded; the owner does those. One site (Cults3D’s search page) showed a human-verification box, which was not answered; its tag pages loaded without one and were used instead.
Sites searched: GrabCAD, Printables, Thingiverse, Cults3D, MyMiniFactory, Thangs, MakerWorld, Sketchfab, TurboSquid, CGTrader and 3DModels.org; general web searches for Onshape public documents, the Autodesk Fusion gallery, GitHub, Etsy, airsoft makers’ CAD, and light-gun shell makers.
2.3 The one whole-gun STEP
“HK MP7 CAD model”, Cults3D design 3583166, by the designer whose account is named practitioners, published 19 October 2025, US$3.00 (shown as $2.99 on the tag page on the day).
- Files: two, “HK MP7.step” and “HK MP7.rar”. The archive’s contents are not listed.
- Licence: CULTS PU, Cults’ private-use licence, plus a “No AI” flag. What that permits is in Volume 3.
- Description, in full: “HK MP7 1:1 Accurate STEP Files True 1:1 dimensional accuracy — scaled to match the real HK MP7 STEP (.stp) industry format — compatible with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, Inventor, Creo, and similar CAD suites.” It adds a disclaimer that the models are for “educational, visualization, and non-functional replica purposes only” and “do not contain internal tolerances or live-fire specifications”.
- Record on the day: 1.7 thousand views, 6 likes, 14 downloads, 0 comments, 0 makes, a 3 out of 5 quality rating from 2 votes.

What the previews show. All three images are CAD screenshots (their file names are Chinese-language screenshot stamps dated 19 October 2025, the day of publication). The model is an MP7A1 with the folding foregrip, accessorised with a closed reflex sight on a riser, a laser-light module and a suppressor. Face edges are drawn as fine lines, the way a solid modeller shows B-rep geometry, and the internal view shows a multi-body assembly with the real gun’s main groups: barrel, bolt group, recoil spring, fire control, stock rails and buttplate. That is far more than a printed light gun needs, which is the right way round: deleting parts in Fusion is quick, modelling them is not.
What it does not prove.
- The reference. “1:1” and “True 1:1 dimensional accuracy” are stated, not evidenced. The listing does not say what it was modelled from.
- Provenance. The same designer sells STEP models of other guns at US$37–57 (an MP5 at $55.41, a VP9 at $56.90, a P320 M18 at $47.92 on the day) and a few at $3.74. A whole MP7 assembly at $3 is cheap even for this designer. That may be a pricing choice; it may also mean the geometry began as someone else’s model. It is worth asking (Section 2.9) before the file becomes the base of anything that leaves the house.
- Quality. No one has posted a print. The STEP may be clean solids, or it may contain surface patches, tiny sliver faces or open bodies that a conversion leaves behind. Section 2.8 lists the checks.
Verdict: the recommended starter for the first, private gun, because it is the only file that meets criteria 1, 3 and 4 at all, and it costs less than a coffee. It is not a file to build a kit on without the designer’s written permission (Volume 3).
2.4 Meshes and scans worth keeping
None of these is a starter in the owner’s sense. Each is useful as a cross-check, a reference to model over, or for one part.
3DModels.org, “Heckler & Koch MP7 3D model”. A professional studio’s model, US$73 on sale ($75 list) under its Standard licence, $115 Extended, $225 “AI” licence (19 October 2026). Polygonal, 357,000 polygons, textured; “3D model based on the original dimensions of a real submachine gun”, with “All main parts of the model … separated objects”. The files are smoothed, and the studio offers “un-smoothed geometry by your request”. Formats include STL, OBJ, FBX, 3DS, Max, Rhino 3DM, SketchUp and DWG; STEP is a paid conversion (“format CAD/NURBS compatible $50”). A NURBS conversion of a polygon model is surfaces fitted to the mesh, not a feature-based solid, so this is a high-quality reference, not an editable starter. Its terms allow modification “for business purposes” inside the buying organisation and forbid distributing the product “or any modifications/parts” without written permission (Volume 3).
Sketchfab, “MP7 A1 Model” by BL Studuo. Free to download, CC BY, 1,357,774 faces, published 29 October 2024, described as modelled after the real MP7A1 and supplied as OBJ. The densest free MP7 found, and under the most permissive licence of any model in the survey. Its own suppressor carries the studio’s name, which suggests an original model rather than an extracted one. As a mesh it is a reference: imported into Fusion and sectioned, it gives outlines to sketch over (Volume 4).

Cults3D, “Hk mp7 smg prop 1:1 replica” by Farmacevt. US$16.96 (published 1 June 2026), private use, three STL files (“magazine.stl”, “part1.stl”, “part12.stl”). The description says “This is a 1:1 replica of the HK mp7 smg. The model is fully functional with all internal components, however these parts have very tight tolerances”, recommends 80–100 % infill and warns that the modelled springs are “for refence”. The preview is a Blender viewport with every screw a separate object, so it was built as a mesh model. Good detail; mesh only.
Cults3D, real-magazine scan by swi-sro. “This is a real size scan of a Heckler & Koch HK MP7 4,6x30mm30 round SMG magazine. It can be used as a mold or reference”, US$11.25, private use, one STL, published 18 April 2024. The preview shows the floor plate’s moulded “Made in Germany 4.6x30”. It is the only file in the survey measured from a real H&K part, and the magazine is the part this build cares most about: it carries the cable, the GX plug and the reload sensing (Volume 5), and its outside has to fit the grip. Recommended as a second purchase, to check the starter file’s magazine and grip against.
GrabCAD, “Grip MP7A1” by Triotec. Free (GrabCAD’s site licence, Volume 3), STEP, IGES, STL and OBJ, uploaded 9 October 2023. Despite the title it is the folding vertical foregrip, not the pistol grip; the preview card makes that plain. Useful if the starter file’s foregrip disappoints.
2.5 Everything else, site by site
Table 2 — 2.5 Everything else, site by site
| Site | What it has for “MP7”, 19 October 2026 | Starter? |
|---|---|---|
| GrabCAD | Four hits: the foregrip above; “MP7 Silhouette” (an AutoCAD outline, Ahrixus, 2024); “4,6x30 HK” (a cartridge STEP, Bartosz Rakowski, 2022); one unrelated. No whole gun. | No |
| Printables | 45 MP7-named models out of 473 loose hits: rails, foregrips, base plates, hop-up and gearbox parts for airsoft MP7s, under CC BY-NC-SA, CC BY-SA, CC BY and CC0; and “Dummy 13” MP7s sized for a 13-inch articulated toy figure. No full-size MP7. | No |
| Thingiverse | ”MP7 SUBMACHINE GUN (PREMIUM EDITION)”, JACKAL, 2019, CC BY, one 1.1 MB STL “from video games”; “The Division- MP7”, Darkslayer179, 2024, CC BY-SA, one 724 kB STL; many airsoft accessories. | No: single small game meshes |
| Cults3D | The STEP, the Farmacevt STL and the magazine scan above; “MP7 Tactical SMG (Prop-Gun) 1/1 Scale”, 3DGunSmith, $7.32, STL and 3MF in six parts; “MP7 (PropGun) 1/1 Size”, 3DBlackSmith, $4.50, whose description says the files are scaled down and must be “SCALED 750%” for full size; “MP7-SMG (PROPGUN) 1/1 SIZE”, 3DGunSmith, $6.19, with the same six file names and sizes as the 3DBlackSmith listing; body kits that dress an airsoft Glock or Action Army AAP-01 pistol as an MP7; miniatures. | Only the STEP |
| MyMiniFactory | Two designs, both MP7-shaped rubber-band guns. | No |
| Thangs | Rail mounts, adapters, a Counter-Strike MP7, a Half-Life 2 SMG and a bundle of game-styled “Gun MP7” variants. With the file filter set to STEP, IGES, F3D and SLDPRT, no MP7 at all. | No |
| MakerWorld | About 25 hits, all game-styled (“Delta Force”, PUBG, Counter-Strike skins) or accessories. A “1:1 scale” MP7 prints on one plate in 132 g of PLA, far too little for a full-size receiver. | No |
| Sketchfab | BL Studuo’s mesh above, and some twenty more downloadable meshes, mostly CC BY, several named after games. | Reference only |
| TurboSquid | 22 MP7 models, $0–149, all polygon (Max, Blender, Maya, FBX, OBJ). Every one is marked “Editorial Uses Only”: “The intellectual property depicted in this model, including brands, is not affiliated with or endorsed by the original rights holders and must be used under editorial use restrictions.” | No |
| CGTrader | About 57 MP7 models, game and render meshes, “Royalty Free” or free; the 3D-print section has only a tabletop miniature. One listing could not be re-read before the site’s rate limit stopped the survey. | No |
| 3DModels.org | The studio model above. | Reference |
| Onshape, Fusion gallery, GitHub | Nothing found by web search. Onshape’s public-document search needs an account, which was not created. | — |
| Airsoft makers (KWA, VFC, Tokyo Marui, Umarex) | No published CAD found. | — |
| Light-gun shell makers (GUN4IR, Blamcon, OpenFIRE builders) | No MP7 shell. The nearest are a GUN4IR Operation Wolf shell on Printables, with solenoid, board and camera mounts, and Blamcon’s Vyper SMG. | — |
2.6 Game models and where they come from
Many of the meshes are named after a video game: “COD:MW2019”, “Counter Strike 2”, “Half-Life 2”, “The Division”, “Delta Force”, PUBG. A model taken out of a game belongs to the game’s publisher, and an uploader cannot give it away under CC BY by choosing that label. Even where the uploader modelled it themselves in a game’s style, the shape was drawn for a camera, not a caliper: proportions are adjusted to read well on screen, and scale is whatever the game engine used. For this build they are pictures, nothing more. For a kit they are a liability, whatever their stated licence.
2.7 The shortlist: why this, and why not the others
Table 3 — 2.7 The shortlist: why this, and why not the others
| Rank | File | Format | Licence | Why this | Why not, or the catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cults3D 3583166, “HK MP7 CAD model”, practitioners, $3.00 | STEP assembly | CULTS PU (private use) | The only whole-gun solid; separate bodies follow H&K’s part groups; claims 1:1; Fusion imports it directly | Reference and provenance unstated; no makes; private use only; full of internals to delete |
| 2 | 3DModels.org “Heckler & Koch MP7”, $73 (+$50 STEP conversion) | Polygon mesh, separated parts; NURBS conversion on request | Standard licence: modify for business inside the buyer’s organisation; no distribution without permission | Professional studio, “based on the original dimensions”, parts separated, smoothed or un-smoothed; a credible second opinion on every dimension | A mesh; the paid STEP is fitted surfaces, not an editable solid; $123 for a cross-check |
| 3 | Sketchfab “MP7 A1 Model”, BL Studuo, free | OBJ mesh, 1.36 M faces | CC BY | Free, very dense, and the most permissive licence found: the cheapest independent cross-check | A mesh; scale unverified; one more source of the same kind of claim |
| — | Cults3D real-magazine scan, swi-sro, $11.25 | STL scan | Private use | The only geometry measured from a real H&K part; checks the magazine and grip | A single part; a scan |
| — | Farmacevt 1:1 STL, $16.96 | STL | Private use | Detailed, with internals | Mesh; adds nothing the STEP lacks |
| — | GrabCAD foregrip, Triotec | STEP | GrabCAD: non-commercial | A solid foregrip | One part |
| — | 3DGunSmith / 3DBlackSmith “PropGun” | STL, 3MF | Private use | Cheap, printable | Render-model detail; one listing says it must be scaled 750 %; the two accounts list the same files |
| — | Thingiverse, MakerWorld, TurboSquid, CGTrader, other Sketchfab | Meshes | Various; TurboSquid editorial only | Free pictures | Game-derived, scale unknown, provenance doubtful |
Recommended: buy rank 1 and the magazine scan ($14.25 together on 19 October 2026), download rank 3 for nothing, and keep rank 2 in reserve for the day a dimension in rank 1 looks wrong and two free references disagree.
2.8 What to buy, and how to check it
When the starter STEP arrives, before any design work, check it in Fusion against H&K’s published figures. The checks take an evening and decide whether the file is a base or a picture.
Table 4 — 2.8 What to buy, and how to check it
| Check | How, in Fusion | Expect |
|---|---|---|
| Units and scale | Inspect, Measure, overall length with the stock collapsed | 415 mm by H&K’s 2011 technical data and the Bundeswehr; 420 mm in the manuals (HK MP7 Vol 4). Anything near 16.3 means inches; near 41.5, centimetres. |
| Height | Measure, base of the grip to the top of the rail | 169.5 mm (H&K 2011) or 172 mm (manuals), with which magazine fitted not stated; record which |
| Width | Measure across the receiver | 42, 45 or 51 mm by source, depending on what is counted |
| Barrel | Measure, barrel solid | 180 mm in every source |
| Rail | Measure slot pitch on the top rail | MIL-STD-1913 spacing; a wrong pitch means the rails were drawn by eye |
| Bodies | Browser, count bodies and components; look for surface bodies (a different icon) | Solids, one per part; surfaces mean a conversion |
| Watertight | Inspect, Interference on the assembly; try Shell on the receiver | Shell fails on bodies with gaps or slivers |
| Magazine and grip | Insert the swi-sro scan as a mesh; align it in the magazine well | The scan sits in the well with a plausible clearance |
| Cross-check | Insert the BL Studuo OBJ, scale to the same 415 mm, overlay | Outlines agree within a millimetre or two along the receiver |
Decided (19 October 2026, D40): the Cults3D STEP and the magazine scan are bought when the build needs them; the free CC BY mesh stays the cross-check.
2.9 Asking a designer
Three designers are worth a message, each for a different reason. Every one is reachable through the site’s own contact feature; the owner sends the message.
- practitioners (Cults3D): what the model was built from (drawings, photos, a real gun, an airsoft gun, another model); whether a native file (SolidWorks or Creo) exists; and the price of a commercial licence (Cults offers a “CULTS CU” commercial-use licence that a designer can apply) or a written licence for selling printed kits made from a modified version. The listing has a “Make an offer” button and a designer contact.
- 3DModels.org: whether the “un-smoothed geometry” option and the $50 CAD conversion produce closed solids; and the written permission their terms require for distributing anything made from the model.
- BL Studuo (Sketchfab): what reference was used, and confirmation that the model is their own work (CC BY is only as good as the uploader’s right to grant it).
The wording of the licence request, and what to do with the answers, is in Volume 3.
2.10 What could not be verified
- The practitioners STEP’s reference, provenance, internal quality and the contents of its RAR archive.
- Whether 3DModels.org’s “CAD/NURBS compatible” conversion produces solids or open surfaces.
- The scale and reference of the BL Studuo mesh.
- CGTrader listing “HK MP7” by ddurai4sl ($9.99), which a page scan flagged as possibly offering a CAD format; the site’s rate limit stopped a re-read.
- Onshape public documents (searching them needs an account) and the Autodesk Fusion gallery (not searched in the gallery itself).
- 3D CAD Browser, which sells STEP models of other firearms; its site search did not respond to an MP7 query.
