Compatibility — Which P320 Goes In, and What Does Not

Flux’s compatibility statement for the Raider X runs to five lines on the product page, and nearly every line has a consequence for choosing the pistol that goes into an additional chassis. SIG’s manual for the chassis adds a table that says some of the same things differently and one thing Flux’s page does not say at all. This volume sets both out, reconciles them where they differ, and ends with the question that most affects a purchase: whether the pistol has a thumb safety.

4.1 The Sources, Side by Side

Flux’s Raider X product page, verbatim:¹

Flux’s support page adds the named variants: “The Raider X/MP17 are compatible with the Sig Sauer® M17/M18/P320™ series, full size, compact, X-five™, X-five™ Legion, VTAC, and Tac Ops™ versions,” and “It will work with any 9mm P320 variants not listed above.”²

SIG’s Raider X manual, §2.3, prints a compatibility table (F = full-size, Ca = carry, C = compact, SC = subcompact):³

The two agree on everything that matters and differ in emphasis. SIG is stricter on triggers (“No,” where Flux says “may not work”) and adds the line about slide-mounted optics that Flux’s product page omits. Where they differ, this volume follows the stricter.

4.2 The Fire Control Unit

Calibres. 9×19 mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG FCUs are accepted. The .45 ACP P320 and the XTEN (the P320’s 10 mm) are not.¹ Flux’s FAQ confirms the other two calibres specifically: “the Raider X is compatible with .357 Sig and .40 S&W models of the P320.”⁴

Sizes. A P320 is sized by its slide, barrel, recoil spring and grip module, not by its FCU. SIG’s own page for a bare FCU lists one Custom Works unit, “9mm Luger / 40 S&W / 357 SIG,” 4.25 inches long, with no size variants, and describes it as “Compatible with all 9mm/357SIG/40SW P320 post-upgrade accessories.”⁵ That is why the Raider X lists slide lengths, not FCU sizes: a compact P320’s FCU goes in exactly as a full-size one does, and what changes is where its shorter muzzle ends up (below).

“Post-upgrade” in SIG’s wording refers to the 2017 Voluntary Upgrade, whose history is in the SIG P320-M17 dive, Volume 3. Neither Flux nor SIG addresses whether a pre-upgrade FCU should go into a Raider; a donor that predates the upgrade should be identified before purchase, not after.

The X-series. Flux’s support page names the X-Five, X-Five Legion and “any 9mm P320 variants not listed,” and SIG itself builds the P320-FLUX LEGION and TACOPS on “Full-Size X” specifications.²⁶ Nothing on either maker’s pages excludes X-series FCUs. The only X-branded exclusion is the XTEN, which is excluded for its calibre.

The manual safety. “FCU w/ Manual Safety — No.” That line decides more than any other, and it has its own section at the end of this volume.

4.3 Slides, Barrels and Where the Muzzle Ends

Every P320 slide length fits the chassis. The restriction is on the muzzle, and it is a safety restriction, not a fit one. SIG’s footnote gives the reason: shorter barrels “must be threaded and used only with an installed compensator or suppressor, to ensure the muzzle of the pistol is forward of the grip module.”³ On a Raider X the chassis extends forward of a 3.9-inch barrel’s muzzle, around the forward magazine well where the support hand rides; a muzzle device carries the muzzle out past it.

Barrel lengths are from SIG’s model pages for the full-size and M18, from Flux’s FAQ for the 3.9-inch compact and X-Carry, and from Killer Innovations’ compatibility list on Flux’s site for the 3.6-inch X-Compact.⁷

The M18 belongs in the second row. Its slide is 3.9 inches on a full-length grip module, so while the grip module is irrelevant to the chassis, the barrel puts the M18 among the “carry” slides that SIG and Flux both require to be extended.⁸

Flux’s own recommendations run toward the shorter slide for suppressed use — “For the Raider X, we recommend the 3.9” compact/X Carry size slide” — and the compensator Flux sells is sized for it: the Herrington Arms HC320R “will make your x carry 3.9″ slide flush with the end of the Raider chassis.”⁴⁹

Barrels, from the makers:

• SilencerCo threaded barrels, sold by Flux at $169.00 in full-size and compact P320 versions, “that we recommend for Suppressor and Compensator use.”¹⁰ The full-size barrel’s fitment on an M17, which SilencerCo does not list, is the subject of the SIG P320-M17 dive, Volume 6.
• SIG’s own threaded barrel for the full-size P320 is 5.5 inches; SIG’s full-size slide assembly is rated for “Standard 9MM, 4.7” non-threaded, or 5.5” threaded barrels.”¹¹
• Killer Innovations Velocity barrels ($283.00) pair with that maker’s compensator; the maker does “not recommend using our compensators on the OEM threaded barrels.”⁷
• Ported slides. The AXG Legion slide on SIG’s P320-FLUX LEGION “is not compatible with threaded barrels”; Flux’s barrel listings repeat the warning, and “To Suppress: You must swap the ported slide for a non-ported slide.”⁴¹⁰

Sights. Standard-height and night sights fit. Suppressor-height sights do not: the slide’s rear sight passes under the hood roof, and Flux’s Raider X change list shows how little room there is — the inside of the slide channel under the optic rail was raised by 1 mm “for compatibility with adjustable iron sights.”¹²⁴

Slide-mounted optics. SIG: No. The optic belongs on the hood (Volume 3). The one Flux product built for a slide-mounted optic is the Chop Top, which has no hood (Volume 1).

4.4 Magazines

Neither maker says why the short magazines fail. The evident reason is length: the chassis’s wells, catches and dual release are placed for a full-length magazine body, and a shorter one does not reach them. That is an inference from the list, not a statement by either company. Aftermarket magazines are a lesser risk: Flux says “many aftermarket magazines do feed but some may not drop free easily from the magwells. Aftermarket magazines tolerances vary widely … We always recommend you use Sig P320 factory magazines as the Raider is designed around those tolerances.”²

An M17 as sold comes with “one (1) 17-round magazine and two (2) 21-round magazines,” all of which fit.¹⁴ Magazine commonality across builds is taken up in Volume 7.

4.5 Triggers

This is the line most likely to catch an owner who has already upgraded a pistol. The chassis’s safety blocks the trigger from outside the FCU (Volume 3), so it depends on the trigger being where SIG’s trigger is.

• Flux: “Safety mechanism does NOT work with all aftermarket triggers (Agency Arms) or forward set trigger kits! The Raider safety will NOT work with most adjustable triggers.”¹² And: “we do not recommend forward set or adjustable triggers for the P320 Raider X platform.”⁴
• SIG: “Aftermarket triggers should not be used with a P320 equipped with a Flux Raider X grip module, as they may interfere with proper operation of the mechanical safety.”³
• Flux’s 2021 Raider page named a category: “Will NOT work with Overtravel Safeties such as (Armory Craft, Gray Guns, Deres Dynamics, Apex, etc.)”¹⁵

SIG’s own trigger shapes are not all the same — its P320 line includes curved triggers and flat skeletonized ones, and the factory P320-FLUX pistols ship with flat skeletonized triggers.⁶ A trigger SIG itself fitted to a P320 is not aftermarket in SIG’s sense; anything else should be checked with SIG’s function check (Volume 5) before the pistol is loaded, because the check is the only published test of whether the chassis safety still blocks the trigger.

4.6 Optics, Lights and Other Rail Accessories

• Top rail: “Any traditional 1913 picatinny mount will fit onto the Raider X. This includes 1913 adapter plates for optics such as the RMR, ACRO, Micro footprint optics T1 or T2.” Known exceptions: the Holosun AEMS (“tight installation fitment”) and EOTechs with a QD latch (“The QD latch will get stuck on the optic mount”).⁴
• Bottom rail: “standard 1913 picatinny cut, so any 1913 pistol light will fit.”⁴
• Side rails: sold separately; “Lasers and lights can fit onto the side picatinny rails.”⁴
• Compensators: “The Raider X is capable of fitting most compensators on the market.”⁴ The compensator on the build in the P320 dive and the spring it forced are in the SIG P320-M17 dive, Volume 6.

4.7 The Manual-Safety Question

4.7.1 Does the Raider X physically require an FCU without a thumb safety?

Yes, as sold. Every current statement from both companies says so:

• Flux, product page: “M17/18 manual safeties must be removed and replaced with an OEM pin (simple mod).”¹
• Flux, FAQ: “The P320 Raider X will not work with the manual safety without modification to the frame. But don’t worry, the Raider X comes with a built-in trigger block safety.”⁴
• Flux, support page: “It WILL NOT work with M17/18 manual safety. You need to install a safety delete pin for the FCU to drop in.” And: “Modifying the Raider to fit the manual safety levers voids the warranty.”²
• SIG, manual: “FCU w/ Manual Safety — No.”³

The phrase “without modification to the frame” is exact. The levers of an M17’s thumb safety stand out from the sides of the FCU, and a manual-safety grip module has cut-outs to clear them; the Raider X has none. Flux once shipped the original Raider with outlines moulded in for owners to cut — “We included outlines on the Raider for dremeling” — and recommended against using them.¹⁶ Today cutting the chassis voids its warranty, which Flux’s terms list as “Removing safety notches.”⁴ The practical answer is that the FCU’s safety must come off.

What removing it involves — SIG’s position that FCU disassembly beyond the grip-module swap is armorer’s work, Flux’s position that it is a “simple mod,” the choice of pin, and the unresolved question of the trigger bar — is set out, both sides quoted, in the SIG P320-M17 dive, Volume 4 and Volume 8. It is not restated here.

As a dated fact about the build that dive documents: the P320-M17 in it was bought with SIG’s thumb safety, and the owner removed the safety and fitted a delete pin so that the FCU would go into the Raider X. That was done before September 2026; which pin was used is not recorded.

4.7.2 Which P320s ship without a thumb safety

SIG’s product pages carry a standard sentence on every model: either “This firearm is equipped with a manual safety” or “This firearm is not available with a manual safety.” The pages read for this volume, from Internet Archive captures of SIG’s own site:^1481718

SIG’s SKUs mark the safety explicitly: “-MS” in a part number means manual safety, as in 320XF-9-BXR3P-MS-CA and 320CA-9-M18-MS-CA. A donor whose part number carries “-MS” has a thumb safety whatever the model name suggests.¹⁸⁸ The table covers only the pages read; SIG’s catalogue is larger, and any other model should be checked on its own SIG page for the same sentence.

SIG’s parts pages confirm that both kinds of FCU exist in its system. Its manual-safety parts kit warns that “Not all P320 FCU’s are cut for a manual safety” and that “A manual safety configured FCU requires an accompanying manual safety grip module,” and its M17 slide assembly is sold as “Compatible with Fire Control Units (FCUs) with and without a manual safety.”¹⁹²⁰

4.7.3 Does SIG sell a no-safety FCU on its own?

SIG sells a bare FCU: the Custom Works P320 FCU, SKUs 8900160 (gold titanium-nitride) and 8900161 (black DLC), $359.99, with a “Custom ‘FCU######’ Serial Number.”⁵ Its page shows no manual-safety option and says nothing about whether the unit is cut for one; it is sold as the base of a Custom Works build, for which SIG also sells manual-safety grip modules. Whether the Custom Works FCU is cut for a manual safety could not be confirmed on a SIG page. It is a serialized firearm in its own right: it transfers through a licensed dealer and, in Michigan, is recorded as a pistol (Volume 7).

4.7.4 What this means for a donor

The safety question is cheapest to answer before purchase. A P320 that SIG sells “not available with a manual safety” goes into a Raider X with no FCU work at all, keeps every word of SIG’s warranty and manual intact, and avoids the only step in a Raider build that the two makers disagree about. An M17 or M18 is the right choice only when the M17 or M18 is the point — and the donor-selection checklist in Volume 7 puts the decision there, first.
